Whilst everyone is always encouraged to maintain their qualifications, mandatory training certificates must be valid at the time of issue of the Wood Badge and for appointment renewal.
Berkshire Scouts run regular safeguarding workshops to ensure our volunteers are aware of The Scout Association’s Child Protection Policy “Young People First” and their role in implementing it.
Given the nature of safeguarding, best practice is to attend a face to face training course. However, it is recognised that there may be circumstances where face to face training is difficult to access, so the online alternative has been provided to ensure flexibility and accessibility for those who need it.
It is the policy of The Scout Association to provide Scouting in a safe manner without risk to health, so far as is reasonably practical.
The Association believes that this responsibility ranks equally with the other responsibilities incumbent upon those providing Scouting activities and functions.
Safety is part of the mandatory training we undertake every 5 years. The course for this module is an online learning course.
GDPR Training is a mandatory module for all appointments. It covers the basic information that individual’s need to know in relation to the General Data Protection Regulations, what this means for their role and for Scouting and how to effectively align with it.

This 6-hour course will provide the minimum standard of First Aid knowledge required, and validation of training module 10 for those people working towards the Wood Badge. The certificate is valid for a maximum of 3 years. Qualifications gained outside Scouting are also accepted and can be used for module 10 validation. See details of equivalents here.
First Response renewal A 3-hour refresher that renews & updates your First Response qualification for 3 years. It must be carried out before your current qualification expires. You can only renew your qualification twice before repeating the full course or an external equivalent.
