Explorer Scouts (14-18 years)

What is Explorer Scouts?

Explorer Scouts is open to young people who are between 14-18 years.

Unlike our younger sections, Explorer Scouts are run by the District and may be partnered to a Scout Group to handle finances, venue, equipment, etc. As they are not formally part of a Scout Group, they run as a district units called an Explorer Scout Unit (ESU).

Each Explorer Scout Unit has its own local programme, and are led by the Explorer Scout membership under the supervision of Explorer Scout Leaders. These units are then managed by appointed District Explorer Scout Commissioner or DESC.

The programme

The aim of Explorer Scouts is to take part in a more adventurous programme.

Whether it is to go abroad on a 10 day expedition, go on adventurous activities for a weekend, or to see how many marshmallows you can eat in 30 seconds – there is something for everyone to get involved in.

As a key part of our programme, we offer the opportunity for Explorer Scouts to gain the Duke of Edinburgh Awards (DofE), as well as volunteering opportunities to help our younger sections through our accredited Young Leader Scheme.
